In U.S. Portland, Oregon, about 200 people gathered at the District Court in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The demonstration turned into a riot, the police used tear gas. One of the activists was hospitalized after allegedly being hit in the head with a rubber bullet.
In Portland, Oregon’s largest city, extreme right-wing activists rallied against the extreme left. On the eve, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to declare Antifa a terrorist organization.
On Saturday, police conducted a major operation in Portland to separate the opposing parties.
At least 13 people were detained after the clashes. A right-wing demonstration was on its way to a park on the waterfront in the city center as their anti-fascist opponents tried to break through the police cordon.
A rally of hundreds of Proud Boys right-wing supporters was met by about the same number of Antifascist activists, with several clashes between right and left radicals, as well as between antifascists and the police.
Four people went to doctors for help.
The stated goal of the extreme right was to get Antifa movement recognized as a terrorist organization. In so doing, Portland is considered a bulwark of the anti-fascist movement.
