Foreign Policy explains why the US can’t cope with the overthrow of foreign governments

The overthrow of foreign governments, which the United States regularly hunts for, should be accompanied by at least an understanding of what the population of another country needs. Washington has shown that it is not able to understand even the Americans.

This is stated in the article of the publication “Foreign Policy”.

“A country that cannot convince its citizens to wear masks to stop the pandemic has no excuse for overthrowing a foreign government and trying to remake entire societies that it barely understands”, – the publication said.

The publication emphasizes that American intervention in order to overthrow the authorities inevitably harm another country, destroying pre-existing political institutions. In addition, the coup creates winners and losers. The latter will probably prefer to take revenge, wishing to regain power and wealth. To avoid this, the US needs to “occupy the country to maintain order while a new government is formed”, but another problem arises.

“A foreign military presence usually causes local indignation and generates stronger resistance, which, in turn, requires the occupying power to send more troops to try to suppress it”, – explains Foreign Policy.

In addition, if the United States undertakes to appoint its proteges to leadership positions in another country, then this must be done with a clear understanding of local orders and values. Ultimately, Washington is forcing millions of people to “change their basic beliefs and norms about politics and society” for their personal interests. Needless to say, the US administration cannot even curb its own society to defeat the coronavirus. Washington could not solve even a passing problem – wearing masks.

“Masks do not weigh 20 pounds, they are not painful to wear, they do not transmit information about your whereabouts or other personal information to the government, George Soros or Google and are not worth a fortune. In this case, the US government does not try to change the behavior of foreigners; it works on its territory, with people whom it knows best. Although some elements of the pandemic response are complex, the main objectives are fairly simple and straightforward. To contain the epidemic, you only need to slow down the rate of transmission of the infection among the population”, – the publication says.

Instead, American elites “fetched freedom” by encouraging sabotage of quarantine measures. At the same time, the media emphasize that it is reckless to blame only Donald Trump for everything, because there are no guarantees of greater success with another president.

“Dealing with COVID-19 would not be easy in the best of circumstances, but the main task is still much simpler than trying to create stable and effective democracies in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, or other countries where US intervention has led to regime change. And that is precisely why a country that cannot convince its citizens to wear a mask should not think that it can force people in some other country to remake their entire society in accordance with its requirements”, – the media said.
