Ukraine is trying to resume electricity imports from Russia

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy Andrei Gerus put to the vote amendments to the law “On the Electricity Market”. It is proposed to restore previously banned import of electricity from the CIS countries, in particular from Russia.

The document was supported by 11 members of the committee.

Recall that at the end of April the Ministry of Energy developed a new energy balance of Ukraine for 2020 and completely refused to supply electricity from Belarus and Russia.

On May 4 in the Verkhovna Rada, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that there could be no question of importing electricity into the country, since this will leave thousands of miners without work. Subsequently, such decisions became the key cause of the deepest crisis in the energy sector during the independence of Ukraine, from which the independence is now trying to get out.
