This initiative is contained in the draft US military budget for next year, prepared by Adam Smith, chairman of the Armed Forces Committee of the House of Representatives.
His staff unveiled the text of the bill, which responded to the budget request of the US administration, transmitted to Capitol Hill this spring.
The draft budget provides for “the allocation of $ 250 million for the Initiative to promote security in Ukraine, which provides support and assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
At the same time, $ 50 million of this amount “can only be used for lethal means of defense.” Last year, Smith also asked for $ 250 million to Ukraine.
At the same time, Ukraine is characterized as the “key partner” of the United States “at the forefront of strategic competition with Russia.”
