Three-quarters of Britons believe that after the mayor of London, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as well as other ministers of the country, should cut their salaries in solidarity with the millions of workers affected by the measures imposed in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, according to a study commissioned by the British publication Daily Mail.
Respondents were asked whether politicians should cut wages by 10%. According to the study, 75% of respondents said yes to this question, 13% thought it was not necessary, 11% found it difficult to answer.
Earlier, London Mayor Sadick Khan cut his salary by 10% and also suspended salary increases for city hall officials in senior positions to reduce city budget spending amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The London mayor’s salary is £152,734 thousand a year. So, in 2020, Khan will lose £15.3 thousand.
The head of London also noted that he is not a supporter of austerity measures, but if you do not cut costs now, the city authorities will have to cut the number of police, firefighters and other important services.
The study was conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies. The company is on the British Survey Board, an association of research companies whose research is often published in the local media.
