Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, on whose conscience there are many corruption schemes and other crimes, will be held accountable for abuse of authority.
This was told by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova.
The so-called case of Semochko became the most obvious on the list of Poroshenko. As Venediktova stressed, the favorite thesis of the ex-president and his lawyers about “political persecution” will not work in relation to this case.
In 2018, Petro Poroshenko appointed Sergey Semochko to the post of deputy director of the Foreign Intelligence Service. The peculiarity of the situation is that the department does not provide for the position for which Semochko was appointed. Thus, the former president exceeded his authority.
“Imagine that we have a speaker of parliament and two of his deputies. Suddenly, the speaker decides that MP Petrenko would also be a good substitute. He introduces the position of the third deputy and appoints Petrenko to it”, – the official explained.
The Prosecutor General emphasizes that the actions of Petro Poroshenko led not only to damage to the state in the amount of 1.5 million hryvnias or 55.8 thousand dollars, since Semochko paid their salaries. More importantly, an unauthorized official was allowed to receive top-secret information.
