The city’s police department posted a report on the use of pepper gas during protests on Twitter, while The Seattle Times claims law enforcement officials used tear gas. On June 6, Seattle Mayor Jenny Dercan said police were temporarily banned from using tear gas to disperse protests.
In late May, protests began in several US states, during which clashes with the police, numerous cases of looting and vandalism took place. The reason for this was the death of African American George Floyd in Minneapolis (Minnesota). The police used a stifling choke during his detention on May 25. Soon after, the African American died in the hospital. A day later, all four police officers involved in the arrest were fired and charged.
