Maduro said the Colombian president “ordered to infect Venezuela with coronavirus”

According to him, returning Venezuelans were given ” bags with cupcakes ” by Colombians.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accused his Colombian counterpart Ivan Duque of trying to infect the Bolivarian Republic with Coronavirus. He made the corresponding statement on Wednesday during a speech in Caracas.

“Today the virus was recorded in 67 Venezuelans who returned from Colombia and Brazil. <…> They enter the country and infect it as [President of Colombia] Ivan Dooké wants. He ordered to do everything possible to infect Venezuela”, –  said Maduro, whose speech was broadcast on public television.

According to him, returning Venezuelans were given “bags of cupcakes” by Colombians. “They say that they left Cali, Bogotá, Medellin healthy, that they did not communicate with anyone, only with their Venezuelan families, so they assume that they were infected in buses,” said Maduro.

The Venezuelan government informed about the first two cases of coronavirus infection in the country on March 13, the same day a state of emergency was declared. March 17, Maduro announced the decision to introduce quarantine throughout the country. As of May 20, 824 cases of infestation have been recorded in Venezuela, 10 people have died.
