The German Chancellor urged residents of Germany to adhere to the “basic requirements” necessary to prevent the spread of a new type of virus.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel is convinced that although Germany is entering a “new pandemic phase” with less stringent restrictions, residents should adhere to the “basic requirements” necessary to prevent the spread of a new type of virus. She made the relevant brief statement on Monday, May 11, in Berlin, before a government meeting on pandemic issues.
“For me it is very important to pay attention to the fact that we are entering a new phase of the pandemic and that it will now be necessary that, along with the weakening of restrictive measures, we really have confidence that people will adhere to the basic requirements: keep your distance, cover your mouth and nose as a sign of respect for other people. This is very important”, – she stressed.
According to Reuters, at this stage two tasks will be in the focus of attention: health authorities will have to closely monitor the infection chain and isolate the diseased.
On May 6, the German government and federal authorities agreed on a draft second phase of lifting restrictions introduced in March to curb the outbreak of coronavirus. During the meeting in the form of a conference call, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the prime ministers of 16 federal states agreed to resume mass and professional sports in the fresh air and to open all stores.
Social distance measures are extended until 5 June. However, a relaxation is also planned here: in the near future, relatives living in two different households will be allowed to meet.
The specific deadlines for the gradual weakening of quarantine are set by the authorities of individual federal states themselves, and they are also responsible for taking measures to suppress new outbreaks of coronavirus on the ground.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 357 new cases of COVID-19 infection were detected per day in Germany, the total number of infected was 169 575 people. 145 600 of them have already recovered. RKI reports 22 deaths in 24 hours. A total of 7417 people died from COVID-19 in Germany.
