The German government is increasingly delivering the so-called refugees from Greek camps to Germany and believes that this is how the country fulfills its “humanitarian duty”.
In fact, it jeopardizes public health – it is too likely that all of these migrants are infected with coronavirus.
Now in a camp on the Greek peninsula of Peloponnese, there are more than 150 refugees who were previously rescued in the Aegean. And everyone has a positive coronavirus test result. This was stated by the Greek Vice Minister of Civil Protection, Nikos Chardalias, according to media in Athens. Another refugee camp, which has about 470 migrants, was already quarantined the day before.
“We will do our best to limit the spread of the virus”, – said Athens’s government spokesman on Tuesday. Deputy Minister Chardalias hastened to emphasize in an interview for state television: “No need to panic”.
In recent weeks, two refugee camps north of Athens have been isolated. According to the Ministry of Migration, about 100,000 people live in Greek camps. All of them want to get to Central Europe. About 39,000 of them remain on islands in the east of the Aegean. Quarantine restrictions were in effect at all camps for several weeks.
