A group of armed militants raided a unit against the Syrian Arab army in the province of Deraa.
This was reported by the Syrian Center for Monitoring Human Rights.
The incident occurred on Friday, April 17th. The attack occurred in the western part of the province, near the village of Khirbet Qais. There, a battle broke out between terrorists and government forces, as a result of which one soldier of the Syrian Arab army was killed. The affiliation of the attackers to any of the groups is unknown – not one of the gangs has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
Nevertheless, it is possible that the militants of the Islamic State* terrorist organization were behind the raid. A day earlier, the Islamic State had already committed an attack in the province. In the morning of April 16, jihadists fired at a car on a highway in the mountains. Information about the victims of the attack varies, depending on the sources. From the Syrian command it is known about two dead soldiers and three injured. Islamic media resources, in turn, reported five killed.
A few hours later, an unknown man on a motorcycle opened fire in the city of Nava, shooting a Syrian officer. The attacker failed to escape. He was intercepted and eliminated by local law enforcement officers. His affiliation with the Islamic State* is unknown.
The southwestern Syrian province of Deraa was liberated in the summer of 2018, but recently the situation has been heating up here.
