Moscow hopes that despite the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan, the agreement between the United States and the Taliban will be fully implemented, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
“We nevertheless hope that the signed agreement between the USA and the Taliban* movement will be fully implemented. And we are convinced that in the current situation in Afghanistan, the pursuit of genuine peace should become an unconditional priority for all forces. And I say about socio-political forces”, – Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday.
On Wednesday, the US Armed Forces in Afghanistan stated that they had launched an air strike against the Taliban in Helmand province for defense purposes, emphasizing that these actions were a response to the attack of the movement against the Afghan armed forces, which are the US ally. The American command of the Armed Forces called on the Taliban, who were struck by air strikes, to stop attacks and adhere to their obligations under the previously concluded peace agreement.
A document between the US and the Taliban was signed on February 29 in Doha. The agreement provides for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in 14 months and the start of an inter-Afghan dialogue in March after the prisoner exchange deal.
Zamir Kabulov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan, Director of the Second Department of Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, said earlier that the US air strike on the Taliban in the Afghan province of Helmand violates the agreement between Washington and the movement, which did not violate its obligations under the agreement signed in Doha, because the Taliban did not take no obligations with respect to the Afghan government, but only with respect to the United States and have not violated them so far.
