Members of the UN Security Council on Tuesday voted to extend sanctions against Yemen for one year – until February 26, 2021.
13 countries supported the extension, and two, including Russia, abstained.
“Not all of our concerns were taken into account”, – Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya commented the decision to abstain from voting at the meeting.
The approved document also recalls the need to comply with the arms embargo on Yemen. It also speaks of concern that one of the parties to the conflict in this country – the Hussite rebels – continues to illegally receive weapons from abroad.
In addition, the resolution provides for the extension until March 28, 2021 of the work of experts monitoring the implementation of sanctions against Yemen.
