Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kedzhriwal called on the government to introduce the army into the areas of the riots in the Indian capital, where 20 people died, and said a curfew was needed.
In the north-east of New Delhi, clashes between supporters and opponents of the citizenship law killed 20 people and injured more than 250. New Delhi’s authorities imposed a curfew the night before in riotous areas in the north of the city. Special measures have been introduced in the districts of Majipur, Jafrabad, Chand Bagh and Karal Nagar.
According to the minister, “the situation is alarming”.
“The police, despite all their efforts, cannot control the situation and instill confidence. It is necessary to immediately call the army and introduce curfews in the rest of the affected (riots) areas”, – he said, adding that he would appeal to the Interior Minister.
