The United States will only sign an agreement with the Taliban if it supports the ceasefire in Afghanistan.

This statement was made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“If compliance with the ceasefire is successful, we will sign an agreement between the US and the Taliban on February 29, agreed with the government of national unity,” the Secretary of State said.

He also noted that soon after the signing of such an agreement, intra-Afghan negotiations should be held, “at which all parties to the conflict will sit together and begin hard work to restore peace.”
