Russia will conduct an observation flight over Turkey

An observation flight over the territory of Turkey within the framework of the Treaty on Open Skies is scheduled for February 25-28, Head of the National Center for Nuclear Hazard Reduction Sergei Ryzhkov said.

“… in the framework of the International Treaty on Open Skies, the Russian Federation plans to carry out an observation flight on the Russian observation aircraft TU-154M LK-1 over the territory of the Republic of Turkey”, – stated according to the message of the Center.

According to Ryzhkov, the observation flight will take place from 25 to 28 February from the Open Skies airfield Eskisehir, the maximum flight range will be 1900 kilometers.

“The Russian observation aircraft will perform the flight along the route agreed with the observed party, and the Turkish specialists on board will monitor the procedure for the application of sensors and compliance with the provisions of the Treaty”, –  concluded Ryzhkov.

According to the agency, the flights are conducted to promote greater openness and transparency in the military activities of the States Parties, as well as to strengthen security through the strengthening of confidence-building measures.
