Berlin is actively working to reduce the negative effect of US punitive measures on German companies participating in the Nord Stream-2 project.
As the Minister of Economy of Germany Peter Altmayer said at the conference, right now the German representatives are trying to get Washington to review the sanctions.
“We are negotiating with our partners in the United States, we are discussing the situation with Russia in order to reduce the negative impact of sanctions on German companies,” the official said.
Once again, he emphasized that Berlin considers Nord Stream-2 exclusively as an economic project that will provide Europe with Russian gas at a bargain price.
As News Front previously reported, the US Congress pulled sanctions along with the military budget. The decision of US lawmakers implies punitive measures against all companies that will participate in the construction of the pipeline.
Construction continues
After Washington threatened sanctions, the Swiss company Allseas recalled its pipe-laying vessels. This happened when it remained to lay only 160 kilometers of the pipeline.
Nevertheless, the Nordnes special-purpose vessel, which flies under the flag of the Netherlands and is owned by the Norwegian company CSL Norway AS, continues to work and crumbles the already constructed underwater part of the pipeline. A similar function is performed by the Rockpiper, which operates under the flag of Cyprus.
Moreover, after about 2 months, the Russian pipe layer Akademik Chersky will arrive at the construction site, which will complete the project. The ship went to sea from the port of Nakhodka in the Far East and headed to Singapore, where it will arrive approximately on February 22.
