Belarusian Ministry of Energy prepares agreements with Russia on spent nuclear fuel reprocessing from BelAES

In Belarus, the Ministry of Energy is preparing two intergovernmental agreements, which will concern the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel  from the Belarusian NPP in Russia.

This was told by Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk.

“As for the processing of spent nuclear fuel, according to the intergovernmental agreement signed, we will be able to process spent nuclear fuel at Russian enterprises. We are preparing relevant intergovernmental agreements, one of which concerns fuel transportation. It is planned to be signed this year. The second one concerns specific conditions for processing spent nuclear fuel”,  – he said.

The official noted that the development of documents requires additional joint work with the Russian side, which means that the work on them will be completed in 2021.
