In times of sanctions and diplomatic crises, it is particularly important that societies in different countries stay connected.
This “people’s diplomacy” is indispensable for developing cultural and economic contacts.
Austrian expert Patrick Poppel has already implemented many popular diplomatic projects in the Russian Federation, the Donetsk, Lugansk and Abkhazia Republics. He stressed the need f.or dialogue at all levels of society.
“Diplomacy can be implemented not only by states, but also by regions and cities”, – Poppel said.
According to the Austrian, “high diplomacy” of states often ignores the interests of citizens and often serves only geopolitical interests.
“I recommend that regional and local politicians promote ‘people’s diplomacy projects’ at appropriate levels”, – Poppel said.
What begins with a simple twinning of a city can certainly contribute to successful economic and cultural development.
