The Austrian Chancellor called for the fight against anti-Semitism

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, called for the fight against anti-Semitism, which is once again growing markedly around the world.

According to the Austrian Chancellor, after 75 years, it is more important than ever to remember the victims of the Holocaust and to fight all forms of anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism.

“Antisemitism, racism and hatred should have no place in our society. In recent years, there has again been a marked increase in anti-Semitism around the world. It takes various forms, right down to calls for a boycott and sanctions against Israel, which is absolutely unacceptable. It is our duty to stand firm against these trends both at home and abroad”, –  Kurz said.

In 2005, the UN General Assembly established 27 January as the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. On that day, in 1945, the Red Army released the survivors of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.
