Antigovernment protests resume in Iraq

The participants of anti-government protests in the Iraqi province of Babil blocked the main roads leading to the capital, Baghdad, with burning tires.

Kurdistan 24 has reported this on its Twitter account. In the capital itself, demonstrations also resumed – protesters gathered in Tahrir Square. On the morning of Sunday, January 19, the security forces tried to oust the citizens from the square, but the protesters were able to fight back.

On January 19, protests also took place in cities in southern Iraq, where citizens dissatisfied with the policies of the country’s authorities block roads to Baghdad.
