A letter from the LNA commander to the Russian President Vladimir Putin states that negotiations in Moscow “should lead to peace in Libya”.
The commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Marshal Khalifa Haftar sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he expressed support for the Russian initiative to hold peace talks on Libya in Moscow. This was reported by the Kremlin press service, which cites the full text of the letter.
“I express my full support for the Russian initiative for holding peace talks in Moscow, which should lead to peace in Libya. I confirm that we are ready to accept your invitation to visit Russia to continue the dialogue that has begun”, – Haftar’s letter said.
Marshal, who called Putin his “dear friend”, expressed to the head of the Russian state “personal gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of the Russian Federation to establish peace and stability in Libya”.
“Accept deep appreciation and respect from us”, – he added.
The message came on the eve of the international conference to resolve the situation in Libya, which Germany plans to hold on January 19. Faiz Sarraj, Head of the Government of National Accord (GNA) sitting in Tripoli, and Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), can take part in it. In addition, representatives are expected to participate, including at the level of heads of state, Russia, Algeria, Great Britain, Egypt, the UAE, China, Turkey, France.
Previously acting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters that the final documents of the Berlin conference on resolving the situation in Libya are practically agreed. He added that these documents “fully comply with the decisions adopted by the Security Council [UN] on the Libyan settlement, do not contain any provisions that contradict the decisions of the Security Council”.
