The head of the Japanese Security Council will visit Russia

Shigeru Kitamura plans to meet with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev.

Secretary General of the National Security Council of Japan Shigeru Kitamura will visit Russia from 15 to 17 January. This was officially announced by the Japanese government on Tuesday.

According to the news agency Kyodo, Kitamura plans to meet with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev during his visit.

At present, Kitamura is accompanying Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on his tour of the Persian Gulf countries. He will travel from there to Russia without returning home, said Kyodo.

Kitamura was appointed to his post in September last year. Previously, he served as head of the Cabinet Research Bureau, Japanese Intelligence.

Kitamura’s predecessor as head of the National Security Council Setharo Yati has met with Nikolai Patrushev on several occasions.
