North Atlantic Council to meet in Brussels at post-presidential level

The North Atlantic Council at the post-prepresentative level will meet on Monday afternoon at NATO headquarters in Brussels, the organization’s official press release said.

The meeting is scheduled for 3 pm on Monday.

Earlier Austrian newspaper Standard reported that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called an urgent meeting of the North Atlantic Council on Monday because of the aggravation in Iraq.

After Iranian General Kasem Suleimani was killed in Baghdad by a U.S. missile strike, the Iraqi parliament declared about the violation of its sovereignty, broke the agreement on the deployment of troops of the international antiterrorist coalition on its territory and demanded the withdrawal of foreign forces.

The North Atlantic Council makes all key political decisions in NATO. Meetings are held at the level of permanent representatives, defence or foreign ministers or at the level of heads of state and government (summits).

All decisions are taken by consensus. The Secretary General of the Alliance presides over the meetings of the Council.
