Iran announces US attempt to disrupt joint exercises with Russia

The United States and its allies tried to disrupt the naval exercises of Iran, Russia and China in the northern Indian Ocean, Tasnim reported, citing Iranian Navy commander Hossein Hanzhan.

“During the joint naval exercises of Iran, Russia and China, the Americans and their allies held an emergency meeting, the purpose of which was to disrupt the process of joint naval maneuvers with our two allies”, – said Hanzhan.

However, he added, through “distraction” their plans were able to upset.

The joint maneuvers of the naval forces of Iran, Russia and China under the name “Marine Safety Belt” took place on December 27-30 in the northern Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Oman. As RIA Novosti was informed by the Ambassador of Iran in Moscow, Kazem Jalali, the purpose of the exercises was to develop measures to combat terrorism and maritime piracy, as well as ensuring regional security.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif previously emphasized that the Maritime Security Belt is not directed against other countries.

The maneuvers took place against the backdrop of Washington’s desire to create a coalition to ensure water security near Iran and a series of incidents that occurred in the Persian Gulf region – the Strait of Hormuz this summer.
