The European Commission does not approve of US sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Der Spiegel reports.
“The European Commission is categorically against the imposition of sanctions against European companies that participate in the project in accordance with legal standards”, – quoted the publication of the Chairman of the European Commission, Ursulu von der Leyen.
The Nord Stream-2 project involves the construction of two pipelines of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany, the project participants, in particular, are European companies.
Last week, US President Donald Trump signed the defense budget for 2020, which, in particular, provides for sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream pipelines.
The US demanded that the companies leading their laying immediately stop construction. The Swiss company Allseas has already suspended work.
