President of Montenegro signs controversial law on churches

Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic signed a controversial law on churches, which outraged the Serbian Orthodox Church and a significant portion of the country’s citizens, Montenegro’s national television reported citing a source.

The assembly (Parliament) of Montenegro on Friday night by a majority vote of the ruling coalition approved the bill “On freedom of religion and belief and the legal status of religious communities”. In this regard, citizens protested in the north of the country, in the cities of Niksic and Budva, blocked roads. Police beat Bishop Methodius of Diocles. Dozens of people were detained in the streets. After a brawl in the assembly hall, the police detained all 18 DF deputies.
