Again and again, migrants try to cross the English Channel between the coast of France and the island of Great Britain – on the second day of Christmas, about 60 people were caught during such an attempt.
On December 26, more than 60 migrants were caught trying to cross the English Channel from France to the UK. 49 people were found in four small boats and transported to England.
“They said they came from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan,” the British Home Office said Thursday.
French authorities saved 14 migrants in two other boats and delivered them to France. Some of them suffered from hypothermia, reports the BBC.
Since January, according to the Ministry of the Interior, more than 1800 people have tried to cross the English Channel in boats. The English Channel is one of the busiest shipping routes in the world. This makes illegal boat crossing especially risky.
