According to a comment posted on Uriminzokkiri, the U.S. “aggressively manipulates the two Koreas to make them yield to their demands and interests”.
South Korea is dependent on the U.S. for decisions to resume cross-border projects with DPRK, which prevented progress in inter-Korean relations in 2019. This was stated in a Friday’s commentary on the news portal of the People’s Republic of Korea Uriminzokkiri.
“The reason why the inter-Korean relations have not moved a single step forward this year is South Korea’s excessive dependence on foreign countries, despite the fact that a good agreement was reached a year earlier,” the article says.
It notes that 2018 was “a year of active change, unprecedented in 70 years of history of the divided Korean peninsula. “People now look back at 2019 with frustration and rage because, unlike 2018, no progress has been made”, – the article stresses.
According to the commentators, the main culprit of the stalled inter-Korean negotiations is the US, “which is aggressively manipulating the two Koreas to yield to their demands and interests, and which is responsible for the division of the nation”.
Chairman of the State Council of DPRK Kim Jong-un and President of South Korea Moon-jae In held three inter-Korean summits in 2018, which resulted in signing a joint declaration on cooperation. In 2019, however, no further steps were taken to implement those agreements.
