Trump says US is readyhis readiness to sign a trade agreement with China

The US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a signing ceremony to conclude the first phase of a US-China trade agreement.

“Yes, we will have a signing ceremony. The deal is completed, it is being translated right now”, – Trump told the reporters.

The US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said on December 13 that representatives of both countries will sign an agreement on trade deals at the first stage in the first week of January. Speaking on Wednesday in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said both countries are in close contact.

“The economic and trade teams of both sides are in close contact about the detailed arrangements for signing the agreement and other follow-up work”, – Geng said at a daily briefing.

Beijing has not yet confirmed the specific components of the deal that were unveiled by US officials. A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said last week that details would be released after formal signing.
