Ankara condemned the adoption of the US Senate resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
“The adoption of the resolution on the so-called “Armenian Genocide” by the US Senate is a shameful example of the politicization of history”, – the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to him, the decision of the Senate is “a destructive attempt to undermine the efforts to develop Turkish-American relations”.
“However, those who use history to achieve political goals while ignoring the facts will never achieve what they want”, – said the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
They believe that the resolution “has no historical and legal basis”, as well as legal force.
It is noted that such “unfair and unjustified steps will not affect Turkey’s determination to continue fighting for its vital interests in the region.
Earlier on Thursday American senators unanimously adopted a resolution on recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
