The transatlantic relationship has been compromised. They are no longer based on mutual respect, which has been replaced by blatant attacks on the sovereignty of the European Union.
This statement was made by Oliver Hermes, head of the Eastern Committee of German Economy, commenting on the U.S. decision to impose sanctions on companies involved in the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project.
Such enterprises will be banned from doing business in the United States. For example, the Allseas company, which provides a vessel for pipe-laying, may suspend cooperation with Gazprom, as it has a subsidiary in the United States. In fact, this will only lead to the fact that a new ship will have to be found to complete construction, which can only delay the launch of the pipeline.
“If sanctions are really initiated, they will become a blatant attack on the sovereignty of the European Union and a fatal sign for Paris’ efforts to achieve peace”, – Hermes said.
He reminded that Europe has adopted all the necessary permits for the launch and operation of Nord Stream 2.
“An attempt by the United States to exert influence would not only be a hostile step, but would seriously undermine transatlantic cooperation, which was based on mutual respect”, – the German economist said.
