Turkey fights terrorism

According to the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs, on Monday the country expelled 11 French citizens suspected of involvement in terrorism as part of a program to extradite foreign terrorist fighters. 4 women and 7 children were sent back to France.

Turkish authorities hold numerous suspects of involvement in the Islamic State* terrorist group. In November, authorities launched a program for repatriation of detainees, which caused widespread resonance among NATO member countries. In turn, Ankara condemns the slowness of European countries on the deportation of suspected terrorists.

Paris signed an agreement with Ankara five years ago that French citizens arrested by the Turkish authorities would be deported in consultation with the French authorities. Since then, Turkey has deported nearly 300 French citizens.
