France responds to US sanctions plans

If the US authorities approve the draft sanctions against France, the EU will stand up for Paris and give a “strong answer”.

As follows from the report of the US trade representative, France adheres to discriminatory policies against digital American companies. For this reason, US authorities intend to introduce duties at a rate of up to 100% on French goods up to $ 2.4 billion.

“This draft sanctions are simply unacceptable”, – said French Minister of Economics and Finance Bruno Le Mayor on Radio Classique.

The official also emphasized that in Paris they are following the decisions of the Americans.

“But the draft sanctions against France itself, which can be implemented within 30 days, is unacceptable. It’s unworthy of an ally, and this is not the behavior that we expect from the United States in relation to its main allies – France and Europe in general”, – explained the minister.

Le Mayor assured that if new US sanctions nevertheless take effect, then “the European Union is ready to respond”.
