The Pope severely defeated UN policy and supported the self-determination of Donbass

Negotiations aimed at providing the republics of Donbass with a special status are a positive step towards resolving the armed conflict.

This statement was made by Pope Francis during a press conference on board the plane that delivered him from Japan to Rome.

According to him, the modern international policy to limit violence is practically useless, and the United Nations is not coping with its tasks in this direction.

“We have no progress here, international organizations are not succeeding, the United Nations is not succeeding. There are intermediary countries, which is wonderful. I like this approach, but this is not enough. We need to do more. Look at the UN Security Council. There is a problem with the weapon. Everyone agrees to resolve it in order to avoid a conflict, and everyone votes in favor, but if one country opposes how everything breaks down”, – the head of the Catholic Church said.

He emphasized that he did not undertake to judge “issues relating to international equilibrium”,  but emphasized that the UN “needed to take a step forward” in limiting the production of weapons and ending wars.

“For example, the case of Ukraine and Russia did not concern weapons, but negotiations on the exchange of prisoners, and this was wonderful. In the Donbass, they are thinking about introducing another state regime. Discussions are underway. This is a positive step”, – stated the Pope.
