Iranian Foreign Ministry praises the US imposition of sanctions against Communications Minister

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi commented on the decision by the United States Department of the Treasury to impose sanctions on Iranian communications and information Minister Mohammad Jawad Azari Jahromi.

“Everyone is aware that the current US government does not attach any importance to democratic principles and values, transparency and human rights, including freedom of the Internet for others”, – he said.

Earlier, the US Treasury said that the Iranian Minister of Communications and Information, Mohammad Jawad Azari Jahromi, was on the United States sanctions list for Iran.

It was noted that sanctions against the minister were imposed for “his role in the large-scale Internet censorship (by. – RT) of the Iranian regime”, in particular, for blocking the Internet for several days amid protests in the country.

On November 27, the State Department said it condemned the attempts by the Iranian authorities to turn off the Internet in the country, noting that the US supports the protests of the “long-suffering Iranian people against the latest injustices of the corrupt regime”.

In September, it became known that the United States was expanding its sanctions list on Iran.
