In an attempt to relieve itself of responsibility for undermining democratic institutions due to scandalous internal political confrontation, Washington chose to blame it on “unfriendly” countries, accusing them of interfering in the 2020 presidential election in absentia.
This is stated in a statement issued by the Pentagon and signed by the ministers of defense, justice and national security, as well as the heads of intelligence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Agency for National and Cyber Security.
Officials say that the “opponents” intend to undermine American democratic institutions and influence public opinion and government policy.
“Opponents achieve their goals through various means, including mass media campaigns, disinformation, or crushing cyber attacks”, – the communiqué says.
At the same time, they assured that Washington is actively interacting with state leaders in order to “identify and prevent the threat”. In addition, the heads of departments called on the Americans to “be vigilant” and inform the secret services of “suspicious activity”.
Recall that following the last presidential election in the United States, Democrats, dissatisfied with the victory of Donald Trump, launched a campaign called “RussiaGate”. The 45th US president was accused of “conspiracy” with Russia, which allegedly interfered in the election process, supporting the Republican. Washington was never able to prove this. But there was information confirming the intervention of Ukrainian officials on the side of the Democrats.
