Lavrov intends to visit Greece at the invitation of the Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he intends to visit Greece at the invitation of the Greek Foreign Minister.

“I am very, very pleased with the negotiations and I am grateful to the Minister for the invitation to visit Greece. I will use it with pleasure”, –  Lavrov said at a press conference following negotiations with the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.

Earlier, the Greek Foreign Ministry said that Athens invited Moscow to take part in the anniversary events on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Greek revolution in 2021. In turn, the director of the fourth European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Yuri Pilipson, in an interview with RIA Novosti, said that Russia would take part in the relevant celebrations.

Greece plans to widely celebrate the 200th anniversary of the revolution. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis formed a committee to celebrate a significant date; it was led by Jan Angelopoulou, who chaired the Greek organizing committee for preparations for the 2004 Olympic Games. Mitsotakis considers the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the freedom of the Greek state a landmark event. The events will be held throughout the country and will end in the summer of 2021 in Athens. The celebration is planned in the administrative centers of each region, the iconic places of the country, as well as in many cities abroad.
