In Ukraine, brought against Klitschko a case of treason and embezzlement of money

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has opened a criminal case on treason and embezzlement against the mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko and his two deputies, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

NABU entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations at the request of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court.

Earlier, deputies of the Kiev city council suspected Klitschko of abuse of power and theft of funds during the reconstruction of the Shuliavsky bridge. The complaint reported that Klitschko, together with members of the city administration and officials of the enterprise “Directorate for the Construction of Road Transport Facilities of Kiev”, could use budget funds in excessive amounts.

In addition, deputies suspect the mayor of contributing to the illegal enrichment of private individuals at the expense of the capital’s treasury on an especially large scale.

Later, the court received a complaint against NABU about inaction in the investigation of possible offenses by Klitschko and his deputies, including part 1 of Article 111 (High Treason), as well as the results of the consideration of applications for unauthorized seizure of land, unauthorized development and illegal reconstruction of residential and non-residential buildings in Kiev.
