A truck with 80 illegal migrants was detained in northern Greece

A truck carrying more than 80 illegal migrants was detained on Monday morning near the town of Xanthi in northeastern Greece, people were threatened with death by suffocation, according to a local newspaper called Xanthinews.

Police stopped a container ship at a collection point on a toll road near Xanthi.

“There were more than 80 illegal immigrants in the container, many of whom had breathing problems, and therefore ambulances were called from Xanthi and Kavala for delivery to the hospital”, –  the publication said.

The container was a choking environment, and it is unlikely that illegal immigrants would survive a long trip to Thessaloniki, the report said. All migrants are from 20 to 30 years old, now the police and ambulances take them to hospitals.

Police arrested a suspect in the illegal transport of migrants.
