An action by opponents of Catalonia’s secession from Spain took place in the very center of Barcelona – on St. Jacob’s Square, where the generality and city hall of the Catalan capital are located.
Several thousand people with Spanish and Catalan flags chanted “Catalonia – we are all!”, “Long live Catalonia, long live Spain!”, “Long live the police! Long live the civil guard!”.
Directly under the windows of the Generality, several people held a huge flag – a heart consisting of three symbols – the flags of Spain, Catalonia and the EU. According to the organizers, “he represents those who want to continue to be Catalans, Spaniards and Europeans and to defend the freedom, democracy and equality of the Spaniards.”
On the general building there is a slogan hung three weeks ago demanding “freedom of speech.” The authorities of Catalonia were forced to hang out this slogan by order of the High Court of Catalonia instead of the previous one – in support of Catalan politicians who found themselves in the dock in connection with the illegal independence referendum in 2017. The Spanish Supreme Court on October 14 found nine people guilty of rebellion, they received sentences of 9 to 13 years in prison, three people were found guilty of disobedience and sentenced to a fine.
