Morocco Coast Guard saves over 300 migrants in the Mediterranean

The coast guard of the Royal Navy of Morocco saved 329 illegal migrants in the Mediterranean Sea, the agency MAP reports citing a military source.

According to the source, the Coast Guard detachments saved a total of 329 illegal migrants trying to get to Europe by boat on October 10-13 in the Mediterranean Sea. It is noted that among the rescued migrants 49 women, as well as many children.

The source emphasized that most of the boat migrants came from sub-Saharan Africa. He added that the rescued migrants received the necessary medical care and were delivered to the Moroccan ports of Tangier, Al Hoceima, Al Nazur and Ksar es-Seghir.

Since the beginning of the year, almost 8 thousand migrants have reached Spain through the Mediterranean Sea, 137 have died. The total number of migrants who crossed the Mediterranean Sea on their way to Europe from January 1 to May 1 was 16 806 people, 410 died, according to the International Organization for Migration.
