Pentagon chief Mark Esper said in a telephone conversation with Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar that the United States is calling on Turkey to halt a military operation in northeastern Syria.
“As part of the conversation, Minister Esper strongly urged Turkey to cease (current) actions in northeast Syria in order to increase the chances of the United States, Turkey and our partners finding a common way to de-escalate the situation before it becomes irreparable,” an official told reporters on Friday Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman.
