The delegations of the DPRK and the United States began formal talks in Stockholm

The Korean newspaper Yonhap reports that the representatives of the delegations came to the place of negotiations – at the Villa Elvis Strand on the island of Lidingö.

Earlier it was reported that the North Korean delegation, headed by special assignment ambassador of the DPRK Foreign Ministry Kim Myong-Gil, flew to Sweden. The US delegation is led by US Special Representative for the DPRK Stephen Bigan.

The head of the North delegation, Kim, expressed optimism in Beijing on Thursday en route to Sweden. His team arrived in the capital of Sweden on Thursday afternoon (local time).

“Since the American side sent a new signal, I am very hopeful and optimistic, and I am also optimistic about the results”, –  he told reporters at Beijing International Airport.

In recent weeks, statements by senior US officials have also been encouraging regarding a compromise with Pyongyang.
