Zarif calls US sanctions against Russia and Iran an attempt to intimidate for political purposes

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called US sanctions against Cuba, Russia, Syria and Iran an attempt to achieve illegal political goals by intimidating innocent people. He twittered about this on Friday.

“US economic terrorism against Cuba, China, Russia, Syria and Iran is deliberately directed against civilians. This is an attempt to achieve illegal political goals by intimidating innocent people”, – Zarif said. He added that “Washington’s methods now include piracy, bribery, and blackmail”.

On Wednesday, US authorities expanded the list of sanctions on Iran, adding to it more than 20 individuals and legal entities, as well as several tankers. The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) believes the measures are directed against a “large-scale cargo transportation network that manages and provides financial support to the Al-Quds special forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps”.
