Trump cancels Poland trip as hurricane Dorian approaches Mar-a-Lago

US President Donald Trump has cancelled a planned trip to Poland to remain in the country to monitor Hurricane Dorian, which could be the worst hurricane to hit Florida in more than 25 years.

The rapidly intensifying hurricane, now classed as a potential category four storm, could hit the President’s Mar-a-Lago and Doral resorts in South Florida.

Authorities in Florida and Georgia have already declared states of emergency ahead of Dorian’s expected arrival on the US mainland on Monday, local time (Tuesday AEDT).

The storm is expected to carry winds of up to 210 kilometres an hour.
