Slovakia: Thousands attend 75th anniversary of Slovak National Uprising

2,500 soldiers and 200 army vehicles were on display in the Slovakian town of Banska Bystrica on Thursday to mark the 75th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising.

Slovak Republic President Zuzana Caputova spoke at the commemoration, saying “we don´t have to agree upon everything to live together and take part in building up the state which will serve all of its citizens.”

Vice–Chairman of the Russian Federation Council, Ilyas Umakhanov, also spoke at the event, saying “we must not forget the tragic lessons of war, forget that fascist, nazi ideology aimed at total extermination of entire nations, in particular Slavs and Jews.”

Around ten veterans of the Uprising, an armed resistance against occupying Nazi forces during World War II, were present at Thursday’s procession.
