US appoints ambassador to Ankara after almost two years

Today, on August 28 the new United States Ambassador to Ankara, David Satterfield, officially took office after the oath of office at the US State Department.

According to the Office of the President of Turkey, Satterfield presented his credentials to President Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday.

It is reported that Satterfield served as the acting assistant secretary for Middle East Affairs from September 2017 to June 2019 before his appointment as the ambassador to Turkey .

In addition, he worked as a provisional charge d’affaires of the diplomatic mission in Cairo and ambassador to Lebanon. Satterfield is fluent in Arabic and French.
