Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Rally party, commented on the possibility of Russia’s returning to the G8 format on her Twitter page.
“By opposing Russia’s return to the new G8, the EU shows us an absurd parody of the Cold War,” — Le Pen wrote.
She noted that the anti-Russian ideology “is completely unproductive for the interests of European countries.”
Earlier, a senior source in European structures announced that the EU opposed Russia’s return to the G8 before the removal of causes of its expulsion.
US leader Donald Trump said he supported the return of Russia to the G8 format. His French counterpart Emmanuel Macron also called this perspective appropriate.
