UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen arrived in Damascus on Tuesday to reopen peace talks in order to speed up the establishment of a Syrian constitution committee.
“I’m looking forward to have constructive discussions on how to move this process forward, and of course, in particular on the formation of the constitutional committee,” said Pedersen upon his arrival at his residence in the Four Seasons Hotel.
“It’s a door opener for the broader political process,” added the Norwegian diplomat who is looking to address ongoing conflicts in Idlib and the issue of “abductees, detainees and the missing persons.”
This is Pedersen’s fourth visit to Syria since he took over the role from his predecessor Staffan de Mistura in October 2018.
